According to Ryan Dawson, pressure created by the public after the release of the Zapruder Film caused the House Select Committee on Assassinations to look into the John F Kennedy assignation. The committee determined, based on acoustic evidence, that there were multiple shooters, as well as a conspiracy to kill JFK in the John F Kennedy Assassination. This laid the loner theories about Lee Harvey Oswald to rest.
The committee was establishing in 1976 with the stated purpose of investigating the assassinations of John F Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr.
George Robert Blakey was the Chief Counsel and Staff Director of the House Select Committee On Assassinations from 1977 to 1979.

This determination of conspiracy and multiple shooters is only one of the little crumbs of truth allowed to flow through the US government to the American Public, which otherwise being pressured to only allow White Wash findings to be released, such as the obfuscations of the Warren Commission.
